Standard 2 in the Australian Teaching standards is know the content and how to teach it. I have been able to really progress with this standard and I have improved dramatically. Upon completing placement for EPT329 my confidence within this standard has increased. As a future highschool english teacher I will need to improve on how I deliver Shakespeare lessons.
![]() Focus areas 2.1 and 2.2 have become easier following my 2nd year placement. Content selection and teaching strategies to deliver content are becoming more evident within my lesson plans. I have started to really understand the NSW Syllabus and how it is use within a classroom. Once I was able to understand the content, appropriate teaching strategies when delivering my lessons have been implemented.
By using current scope and sequence's of work I was able to jump into a Hero's and Villan's unit with a year 8 class. |

Focus Area 2.3 can be demonstrated with an assessment task that I had written for Year 7 on Visual Literacy Techniques. This allowed me to go through the process of writing, setting, collecting, marking and feedback delivery. My success with this was evident with this assessment being kept by my associate teacher for future usage within his department and being named as a co-author for that particular unit.

To work on focus area 2.4 Understand and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians I had requested the opportunity to teach outside of my selected area English during my EPT329 placement. The year 7 History class was wrapping up an Australian Culture topic and after approaching the Head of Department for HSIE I was allowed to take this class permanently for my entire placement. During my lessons I organised a local Aboriginal woman from the Bathurst community to come up and run a workshop on the Wiradjuri Nation. Upon completing this workshop my students had given me feedback that they had really enjoyed the area of Indigenous shelters. The final week of my placement and of the school term my class begun researching and designing their own traditional Aboriginal shelter. Because of the quality of work my students had produced they were able to physically create miniature versions of their shelters.
Focus area 2.5 and 2.6
ICT is a major part of the education system in the 21st century. Being quite competent with this is a must for any classroom teacher. I am quite confident that I am very capable with ICT usage. Creation of worksheets, programs and slideshows for particular lessons are 3 areas which demonstrate my ability in the usage of ICT within education. I agree with my associate teachers when they comment on how I am extremely confident with the use of technology within a classroom. During my placements, I have had access and the chance to use the Smartboards. By using this daily I have been able to build upon my skills using the software paired with my personal computer. I have gained access to the Notebook program that when joined together with Smartboard technology creates a ICT enriched lesson. The chance to work with a BYD (bring your own device) schools have been challenging but educating experience. I don't prefer to use this as there are too many distractions on iPads and as a pre-service teacher my classroom management skills are still being developed. BYOD can make some days difficult to engage students with the distraction of technology.
